iMOVE is a multidisciplinary outdoor dance performance inspired and created by young people from York.

Over the past year, York Dance Space has been delivering short programmes of arts activity for young girls in York. In collaboration with Pilot Theatre, the programmes have provided space for them to be creative, play and try new things in the city.

Led by the voices of young people in York, iMOVE is about sharing a space together, belonging and the relationship between us and our digital selves.

The Castle Gateway commission enabled York Dance Space to continue this work, and also collaborate with other organisations in the city.

York Explore Libraries performance collective, The 9-Bit Orchestra, have been working with resident digi maker and music producer Paul Fothergill, composer Jon Hughes and other techies and artists to create the soundtrack for iMove. This innovative project encourages young people to get stuck into tech tinkering, circuit bending and coding to create lots of noise.

Directed and Choreographed in collaboration with the dancers by Hannah Wintie-Hawkins and Drew Wintie-Hawkins.

Music Composition and facilitation by Jon Hughes and Paul Fothergill

Animation by Aaron Howell
