Yorkshire Artists Trail

May - October 2018

In May 2018, we put a call out for Yorkshire-based media artists to submit work for an installation trail during York Mediale festival.

Housed in the historic Grand Assembly Rooms, the two successful submissions were from local artist Tom Smith and collective Bright White.

Fake News Kaleidoscope by Tom Smith

Fake News Kaleidoscope was a sideways look at truth, myths and alternative realities. Live news headlines were transformed into a typographical kaleidoscope, encouraging onlookers to question the news we receive and what society considers worth reading.

Of York Minster by Bright White

Fragments of original stained glass, lead, carved stone and wood were mounted in a futuristic display case in Of York Minster. The augmented reality display explored the connections between York’s creative community over two millennia, challenging the towering dominance of York Minster as the focal point for creativity within the city of York.
